Taverns and restaurants in and near the Arena District are starting opening-night festivities for the Blue Jackets nearly a day and a half before the puck hits the ice in Nationwide Arena.

Frog Bear might have the greatest number of giveaways planned, with all sorts of signed memorabilia being handed out Friday night, including an autographed Rick Nash jersey. And for those who can’t go to the game, the bar has upgraded its video lounge with three 102-inch flat-panel television screens.

Lots of other area spots plan Jackets-centric promotions.

Natalie Darr at the R Bar, 99 W. Nationwide Blvd., said she’ll be opening the doors an hour early, at 1 p.m., and her husband has created a beer garden on their extended patio.

Max & Erma’s, which just added a private room seating 70 at the restaurant at 55 E. Nationwide Blvd., will be offering half-price appetizers and $1.50 draft beers.
