With locations in urban neighborhoods including Victorian Village, German Village and Grandview Heights, Stauf’s Coffee Roasters has been aligning itself with walkable communities in Central Ohio for 35 years. And in 2023, they’re doing the same with their roasting operations and offices by relocating from the far West Side to Franklinton.
“We want to be near Downtown, because we believe in Downtown and the growth here in Franklinton,” stated Mark Swanson, President of Stauf’s. “We’re an urban company and our focus has always been on walkable and good communities, and I want our staff to be able to live near where they work.”
While the roasting operations were migrated to the new space at 112 S. Glenwood Ave. last week, new offices are currently being built out on the site, which includes a training facility, conference area, a cupping lab and a rooftop patio for staff use.
“This new location means a lot for us,” said Swanson. “For example, our west side location was not on a bus line, so folks couldn’t easily get there. That stalled some really good ideas we had to be a little more active in our community with workforce development projects.”
Additionally, Swanson said that the more centralized location will cut down on travel times for retail and wholesale deliveries. The company is installing some larger roasting equipment that will increase capacity, but is committed to batch roasting by hand and not sacrificing quality with a more automated setup.
In addition to the roaster relocation, Stauf’s is also kicking off 2023 with several additional projects. Their Cup O Joe branded Clintonville location is currently undergoing a long-awaited renovation, while the first new Cup O Joe in over a decade will be opening soon at The Vera on Broad in the Discovery District.
