Brunch had always been in Angela Theado’s plan when she moved The Coop inside The Hey Hey Bar and Grill last September. See, The Coop’s menu – even the name itself – is inspired by poultry and eggs, which naturally lends itself to the whole concept of brunch. After all, no brunch is complete without an appearance by both, and in the hands of the former Alana’s chef, the tradition is elevated to new heights.
“We love that brunch is a weekend unwinding tradition,” Chef Angie says. “We wanted to get dinner service operating smoothly before tackling the logistics of brunch, but are happy to now be able to be part of people’s weekend celebrations”.
So Chef Angie offers several staples with her own distinctive twist. Eggs Benedict get a fatty makeover with the use of duck eggs and a tarragon hollondaise, Steak and Eggs become Yak Sirloin and Eggs, and French Toast meets locally-grown apples and maple crème anglaise for a decadent spin.
There’s also be new brunch classics like the Spicy Fried Rabbit with Pfannkuchen — sweet German crèpes made from a recipe passed down from Chef Angie’s father. You can get the Pfannkuchen separately as well served with home-made Elderberry and Black Sambuca Jam or with Caramelized Plantains and Nutella.
For the savory lovers, try the Yak Bone-In Short Rib Hash, a dish whose name alone is enough to kickstart the taste jets in the back of the mouth. And of course, regular dishes like the outrageous Yak Burger served with a sunny-side up egg will be offered as well.
To accompany such rich fare, Hey Hey Bar and Grill’s owner, Miss Maggie G., will concoct special brunch cocktails just for the occasion. All menu items are priced from $7 to $14, so there’s really no reason not to check them out. Chef Angie will serve on Saturdays from 9am till it’s all gone, so get there early and enjoy the meal!
