The Top 10 Business Success Stories of 2017

There’s a special name for the business that comes in at #1 on the list of top business success stories of 2017. Columbus got its unicorn in January when CoverMyMeds was acquired by Pharmaceutical company McKesson Corporation for $1.1 billion.

Since its launch in 2008, CoverMyMeds has helped to streamline the prior authorization process for prescriptions for more than 700,000 providers, 62,000 pharmacies and 500 plus electronic health record systems, meaning millions of customers getting the medications that they need to live.

The number of employees has grown along with it, blossoming to over 500 with plans to hire hundreds more. CEO Matt Scantland has discussed developing the culture of a rapidly growing company on the cbuzz podcast from the Columbus Chamber.

The software company’s accomplishments have also propelled it out of “small business” territory, but demonstrate the entrepreneurial success achievable in Columbus.
