Trailer Roundup: Superheroes, Virtual Reality & More

Spring has officially arrived… which means that the summer movie blockbuster season is almost here. All the stops are being pulled out for the trailers to get you amped and excited for this year’s biggest flicks, which — just like previous years — is heavy in the superhero genre. That theme extends to the small screen too, but there’s also a couple of other new film, video game and tv trailers worth tuning into from the past week. Check them out, below:

    Hardcore Henry

The much-anticipated indie film Hardcore Henry has built up a lot of buzz by turning the first-person shooter video game perspective into a gore-filled action film, and the second trailer makes it appear that the film will live up to expectations. Arrives in theaters on April 8th. Not intended for those who may suffer from motion sickness.

    Oculus Rift

Speaking of first person perspectives and motion sickness, the Oculus Rift is almost here! The PC-based virtual reality headset will officially be released on Marth 28th, and if you plan on plunking down the $600 for the new hardware, then you’ll probably want to check out the gaming preview trailer that showcases the launch lineup.

    Luke Cage

The next Marvel hero to hit the small screen via Netflix will be Luke Cage — a man with unbreakable skin. The modern adaptation of the seventies-era comic stars Mike Colter as the titular character, which will debut on September 30th. Cage has already made an appearance in Marvel’s Jessica Jones, and you can likely expect more Marvel Cinematic Universe crossovers planned for the future.

    X-Men: Apocolypse

Another week, another new X-Men trailer. There’s not much new to be said about this film if you’ve watched any of the other previously released trailers. Fox really, really wants you to come see these on in theaters after it opens on May 27th.

    Central Intelligence

Kevin Hart reprises his role as a comedic fish-out-of-water who tags along with someone more capable in a law enforcement role. This time he’s riding shotgun to The Rock in Central Intelligence which appears to feature an action-comedy hybrid of car chases, explosions and weird CGI of the Rock’s face on a fat teenager’s body. Coming to theaters on June 17th.

    Ben-Hur

For some reason, Ben-Hur is being remade. August 12th.

    Sausage Party

Adult-centric animation isn’t anything uncommon on the small screen, but until now, there’s never been an R-rated full length animated film. Sausage Party is coming on August 12th (up against Ben-Hur) from Seth Rogan and his usual crew (Jonah Hill, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson and others).

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt — Season 2

Kimmy returns to Netflix on April 15th with a second season of joke-dense fast paced Fey-style humor told through the lens of the most cheerful fish out of water to ever exist.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

One part X-Men, one part Harry Potter, one part Tim Burton. That’s what you’ll get with this new trailer. Heads to theaters in September.

    A Hologram for the King

America’s everyman Tom Hanks takes a turn for the lighter in this comedic adaptation of a Dave Eggers novel. Hanks plays a Bostonian businessman who’s rediscovering himself in a midlife crisis while on a sales trip to Saudi Arabia. Oh, he also recites some Talking Heads in the process. In theaters on April 22.
