New films. New tv shows. New video games. That’s what “Trailer Roundup” provides each week for our pop-culture and multimedia-savvy readers who want to keep tabs on what’s coming soon to big and small screens near you. Here’s the latest and greatest:
Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive
RPG fans have been playing Final Fantasy games for nearly 30 years, and the popular series has spun-off into a lot of other media formats, including theatrical films. 2001’s The Spirits Within was a technical marvel in the realm of CGI, but landed with a thud critically. In 2006, Advent Children got the same reaction. Hopefully the third time’s the charm with Kingsglaive, which features voice talent from Sean Bean, Lena Headey and Aaron Paul. The movie doesn’t have a release date yet, but is headed straight to streaming services and bypassing theaters.
Final Fantasy XV
After you watch the CGI-film, you can dive right in an play the new game. That kind of makes it sound like you’re essentially getting a feature-length animated cut-scene introduction to the game. Anyway, the new trailer reveals a summonable character that looks ripped straight out of Attack on Titan. If you’re into JRPGs, then you’ll want to go ahead and place your preorder well ahead of the September 30 release date.
Homefront: The Revolution
The latest in the ongoing release of open-world first person shooters is Homefront: The Revolution, coming to PS4, XboxOne and PC on May 17th. You take control of Ethan Brady, a revolutionary who leads the charge in fighting back against an oppressive police state. Sort of the opposite of Tom Clancy’s The Division, minus the plague.
Alice Through the Looking Glass
If you enjoyed Tim Burton’s dark adaptation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland back in 2010, then you’ll be happy to get a second dose with this year’s Through the Looking Glass. Burton moves to the producer’s chair, but all of the familiar cohort is back (Depp, Boham Carter, Danny Elfman on music, etc). The sequel hits theaters on May 27th.
War Dogs
War Dogs is a based-on-a-true-story tale of two bros (played by Miles Teller and Jonah Hill) who get in over their heads with government contract work for the military. Judging by the trailer, the pair of protagonists look highly unlikable, but hopefully they learn some lessons along the way about humility, friendship, and the horrors of war.
Marseille
Can’t get enough of House of Cards? How about a French House of Cards? This new series hits Netflix on May 5th and is noteworthy as the first french production commissioned by the company. Judging by the trailer, it looks to have both some beautiful European cinematography, and some intense dark political storylines.

Star Fox Zero
It’s hard to believe that it’s been a decade since a new Star Fox title has been released, seeing as the rails-shooter is one of the most popular Nintendo properties. That will change on April 22nd, when Star Fox Zero crashed onto the WiiU, bringing the familiar cast of characters to re-fight Andross (again) in the same kind of story that you’ve played through in ever other Star Fox game, because that’s how Nintendo rolls… er… barrel rolls.
