Trailer Roundup: Ghostbusters, Nintendo, The Division & More

It’s a slow week for new tv trailers, but there’s plenty of new film and video game trailers to fill the gap. Whether you’re looking for brand new games and movies, or are more of a fan of reboots and sequels… there’s something to be found for everyone. Below you’ll find the latest batch of trailers to enjoy:

    Ghostbusters

Without a doubt, the biggest trailer to drop over the past week was for the Ghostbusters reboot from Paul Feig, starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. With over 19 million views in the three days since its release, the trailer has been watched, rewatched and evaluated with many negative reactions that range from hating on Jones’ character’s stereotype to the basic question as to why Hollywood continues with unnecessary reboots. This one lands on July 15.

    The Meddler

Susan Sarandon and Rose Byrne star in a new mother-daughter dramedy where a newly widowed mother has nothing to keep her occupied except for constantly annoying her adult child. The Meddler arrives in theaters on April 22.

    Metroid Prime: Federation Force

The promise of a new Metroid game is typically enough to get Nintendo nerd juices flowing, but this one is being called into question by many a gaming news outlet. This 3DS exclusive is shedding series hero Samus Aran in favor of nameless marines that are controlled by up to four players for co-op style missions. A series known for its trademark exploration and adventure is getting push more in the direction of an action-centric first person shooter and fans are not yet on board with that. Scheduled to arrive in Late Spring.

    Pokken Tournament

Speaking of genre-changes, the rpg-world of Pokemon is headed into the realm of 3D fighters with Pokken Tournament. The game saw a Japanese arcade release last summer, but will late on the WiiU on March 18. This one’s getting a much warmer reception than Metroid at this point in time.

    Star Fox Zero

Nintendo is pulling out all the big guns in 2016, and a new Miyamoto-produced Star Fox title is just what the WiiU needs to keep relevant in the eyes of gamers. A new trailer this past week shows that the game sticks to the tried-and-true formula of space battle action — alternating between shooter-on-rails levels, free-roaming boss battles and land tank areas. You’ll be barrel rolling on April 22nd.

    Nina

Another jazz biopic will hit theaters in 2016 when the story of Nina Simone hits the big screen. The film appears to be a meatier role for Zoe Saldana, while golden globe winner David Oyelowo looks right at home. Nina’s scheduled release date is April 22.

    Louder than Bombs

Another film about coping with loss, Louder than Bombs appears to be more drama than comedy when compared to the aforementioned Meddler. A father and two sons continue to cope with the loss of their mother/wife — starring Gabriel Byrne, Isabelle Huppert and Jesse Eisenberg. Arrives on April 8.

    The Division

Tom Clancy’s name is a well known property in the video game world, attached to popular series including Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six. New property The Division takes place during a viral outbreak crisis in New York, dropping players into an online open world that combines elements of shooters and role playing. The game arrives this week on March 8th, and critics are anticipating that it may be one of the top new games of 2016.

    Enter the Gungeon

No, the pixel art craze is still not over. Enter the Gungeon is the latest indie title to take root in the 16-bit graphical era while appealing to modern sensibilities with over-the-top action. This top-down dungeon crawler looks equal parts Smash TV and A Link to the Past. But with a lot more guns. Arrives on April 5th.

    Hitman

The latest entry in the Hitman series offers a new twist on the gameplay by introducing an episodic format where players are assigned new missions on a weekly ongoing basis. The first installment arrives on Friday, March 11, with six more episodes to be released throughout the year to keep fans engaged and entertained.
