This week’s edition of Trailer Roundup is very film-centric, with only a handful of new tv show trailers, and no new video games to look forward to. The film front seems to be getting further and further into the future as well, as many of the new movies being showcased won’t make a theatrical debut until 2017. Regardless, here’s a look at what’s coming soon:
Office Christmas Party
As the title implies, this movie is about an Office Christmas Party. The formula looks to be along the lines of a Hangover style romp, and a solid comedic cast (Jason Bateman, Vanessa Bayer, Rob Corddry, Kate McKinnon, T.J. Miller, etc) could make this one a lot of fun. Arrives in theaters in December.
Trainspotting 2
After 20 years, the gang is getting back together for an update. There’s not much to be revealed in this teaser, except for a quick glimpse at Renton, Spud, Sick Boy and Begbie. Find out what they’ve been up to on February 3rd.

Legion
Marvel keeps their TV series train a rollin’ with a series about Legion coming to FX (and not Netflix for a change) early next year. The series follows a character from the X-Men universe with a mutant ability to absorb other people into his own mind as an alternate persona, each controlling a specific superpower. Think of him as Deadpool without the comedy — an antihero with a mental illness.

The Get Down
This new Netflix series is set in 1977 in New York during the birth of hip hop. This show looks like it’s got a lot of potential both in its young acting talent as well as a powerful production team that includes Baz Luhrmann, Nas and Grandmaster Flash. Streaming starts on August 12th.
Hacksaw Ridge
If you haven’t already got your fill of World War II films, Hacksaw Ridge is your latest installment that follows the true story of young doctor Desmond Doss who goes into battle to save lives rather than take them. Starring Andrew Garfield, Rachel Griffiths and Vince Vaughn and hits theaters on November 4th.
Better Things
If you enjoy Louie, then Better Things was made for you. The show centers upon Pamela Adlon (who you’ll recognize from Louie, King of the Hill and elsewhere), portraying a single mom with three daughters trying to raise them while working as an actor in LA. Louis CK produces. Premieres on FX on September 8th.

Gotham: Season 3
We got most of the Comic Con trailers wrapped up in last week’s post, but there’s a few stragglers left over. One is for the third season of Gotham on Fox, which continues the tale of a young Jim Gordon and the origins of some of Batman’s most famous foes. Season three begins on September 19th.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
Ever wonder what it would look like if Guy Ritchie put his signature cinematic touch on something a bit less contemporary? Enter: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword — a stylish medieval romp that stars Jude Law and Eric Bana in addition to Littlefinger and Roose Bolton. The film’s set to debut on March 24th.
Split
M. Night returns with another go at the suspense/horror genre with Split. A group of girls end up abducted by a deranged Professor X who has 23 split personalities that each engaged with his captives in a different way. Will they get out alive? The biggest question is… what’s the twist? You can find out on January 20th.
The Great Wall
No, The Great Wall is not a preemptive documentary about President Trump’s public works project to keep all Mexicans out of the US, it’s an epic fantasy action flick set on the original wall in China, starring the main man you’d associate with the Great Wall of China: Matt Damon. And co-starring The Red Viper, Oberyn Martell. Arrives in theaters on February 17th.
The Accountant
This past week we’ve gotten a second look at Ben Affleck’s The Accountant, a crime drama about a CPA who un-cooks books for dangerous clients. The authorities have realized that the knowledge contained in the mind of this person is a valuable asset and start to descend upon him to find out what he knows. Arrives in theaters on October 14th.

Ben-Hur
Your lifelong dream of watching Ben-Hur in IMAX 3D will become a reality on August 19th. The classic film is being rebooted into what we can only hope becomes a trilogy, or even a never-ending series like the Fast and the Furious, except with fewer sports cars and more chariots.
