Treat to Try: Capital City Cakes and Sweet Treats’ Éclair

Capital City Cakes and Sweet Treats, has been in their new location in Grove City since about January. The space was formerly a Graeter’s Ice Cream. When Graeter’s closed, owners Gary and Sue Baisden decided the time was right for them to move their shop back to Grove City. It’s in a nice location, right on the main thoroughfare, with a large brick patio out front that has a bandstand. The shop makes specialty cakes, but also has many choices of cake slices, Velvet ice creams, brownies, cookies, cupcakes and more available for dine in or carry out. I tried the éclair.

The éclair is a generous size, at 6 inches long and 1 and a half inches wide and tall. Sandwiched between two layers of a chewy and spongy dough is a thick layer of deliciously sweet Bavarian cream. The dough itself melts away in your mouth. A heavy drizzling of chocolate icing on top finishes it off. It’s made by hand, only $2.50, and it’s yummy. If you find yourself in Grove City, pop in and give them a try.

Capital City Cakes and Sweet Treats is located at 4009 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123. They are open every day, Monday through Saturday, from 11 am to 9pm and Sunday, from 2 pm to 6pm. Like them on Facebook.
