Treat to Try: Pistacia Vera’s Strawberry Dacquoise

If you find yourself in German Village, you may want to pop into Pistacia Vera and give a piece of their Strawberry Dacquoise a try. This gluten-free dessert consists of “layers of pistachio meringue, pistachio buttercream and house made strawberry elderflower jam, finished with a yogurt mousse.” It’s a beautiful piece of food made of bright layers of pink and yellow, topped with a strawberry slice and half of a tiny pistachio macaron. It’s about 3 inches long, 3 inches high and 1 and half inches wide. Enough for one person although you may want to share a few bites. The mini version of this dessert is $6.

The dessert tastes like a chewy nutty cake, with the consistency of a thick banana bread. It would be wonderful to eat this for breakfast. It’s not too sweet, and the cream in between cake layers keeps it light. The macaron gets a little soft sitting on top of the creamy yogurt topping, but it is still slightly chewy.

Pistacia Vera is located in German Village at 541 South 3rd Street Columbus, OH 43215. Open daily from 7am to 7pm. Like them on Facebook.
