    Treat to Try: Suga Pie’s

Suga Pie’s introduced its official storefront this past weekend at The Pit BBQ Grille in Clintonville. For dessert fans, Suga Pie’s is an established player in the online ordering world. The opening of the custom bakery’s outlet marks the beginning of a new era; one designed for impulse buyers who need a treat RIGHT NOW. Its menu boasts a bounty of cupcakes ready for immediate consumption.

At Pit BBQ, Suga Pie’s already enjoyed an unrivaled reputation as the maker of its house banana pudding, so the marriage of the two enterprises makes lots of sense. As luck would have it, there is a Banana Pudding Cupcake in Suga Pie’s line-up. It’s built on a sweet, tender banana cake foundation, hollowed-out to hold a well of golden pudding. The pudding isn’t that box goo, it’s house-made and smooth as silk. The combo is topped with a thick swirl of banana cream cheese frosting accented with just enough cinnamon to be reminiscent of another epic banana dessert: Bananas Foster. A chunk of fresh banana sits atop as a crowning glory

And while the aforementioned treat was the personal favorite, household fans of the Lemon Cupcake argued passionately for its supremacy, calling it ”the perfect cupcake.” And it was pretty perfect. Light, lemony, it feels like spring.

Of course, you don’t really have to choose favorites. Eating both is a terrific win-win option. That said, there are other flavors to explore as well: the Red Velvet comes from a family recipe; Turtle Sundae comes with a caramel filling; and the Peach Cobbler Cupcake somehow integrates both peach and crust elements.

For bigger appetites, customers can always check out the website and order a cake or whole pan of the original house banana pudding. The website is here: sugapies.com. Meanwhile, the brick and mortar operation is serving at 4219 N. High St. in Clintonville.
