Treat to Try: The Buckeye Lady

The Buckeye Lady has made its brick-and-mortar debut inside of the &Juice stop in Clintonville. While the two operations wouldn’t seem to be conceptually aligned, the duo seem to be pairing quite well these days – buckeyes one day, cleanse the next!

The Buckeye Lady offers something more complex than regular buckeyes, though. It (she) sells buckeyes in flavors. That is, the house treats feature not only the traditional, creamy, peanut butter and chocolate combo, but also versions of the duo enhanced with a host of add-ins: Stuffed buckeyes.

Take, for example the Cheesecake Buckeye. In the first bite, the sturdy chocolate shell cracks, giving way to the anticipated creamy peanut butter filling, but then there’s an extra dose of richness from a luxe cheesecake core. There’s a cinnamon version too – equally pleasant with a Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal lid that gives it a bit of an accent that’s reminiscent of a cinnamon roll.

The Cookies n’ Cream version is a best seller, it features an Oreo-based confection at its core. And the strawberry was fun too – less like a PB&J, and more in the vein of a springy strawberry cake inside. There are lots of variants to try, including Carrot Cake, Black Raspberry Chip and several options inspired by Girl Scout cookie flavors. And vegan versions, too.

Worth noting is that The Buckeye Lady is also a canine fan. According to its mission statement, a portion of its income is donated to organizations that rescue or shelter dogs.

The Buckeye Lady has site for online ordering, and you might find the candies at a few local grocers as well…but then you’d miss your chance at a post-binge juice cleanse with its storefront neighbor, so look for it at its new home at 4493 N. High St.
