Upscale Campus Bistro Touts Local Ingredients

At The Blackwell Inn’s Bistro 2110 you won’t find burritos as big as your head, but you might find yourself sitting two tables away from The Ohio State University President Gordon Gee. This happened to my handsome dining companion and I recently when we sampled the restaurant’s new spring menu.

Specializing in American, European, and Asian fare, Bistro 2110 offers elegant tablecloth service and unbeatable views of Ohio Stadium in an area more known for Golden Tee and Beer Pong.

Our meal began with warm crusty sourdough bread and delightfully garlicky house-made butter. Next we tried the Roasted Goat Cheese plate with blueberry marmalade, lavender almonds, and crisp lavosh followed by a bowl of Crab Corn Chowder with crab meat, apple wood smoked bacon, scallions, and roasted corn (which my confidante gleefully noted was topped with “actual pieces of corn from an actual cob”).

Our server Brenda reminded me of Katie Holmes and was as knowledgeable about the menu as she was attentive. My compadre and I were impressed that so many items on the menu contain Ohio ingredients. The Ohio Greens salad features locally grown mâche, arugula, and bibb lettuces and the daily soup is made with Ohio grown produce.

“We went to great lengths to incorporate the best locally-grown produce that Ohio has to offer,” said Adam Martter, the Inn’s Executive Chef.

I ordered the Pan-Fried Walleye (another local dish) as my main course, which came with a tasty bleu cheese polenta cake. My confidante ordered the Chicken Scalloppine and swooned over its accompanying smashed Yukon gold potatoes. We shared the Lemon Charlotte with light mousse, fresh berries, and whipped cream for dessert but were pleased to see Ohio’s own Graeter’s Ice Cream on the dessert menu.

Bistro 2110 serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week and a brunch buffet on the weekends. Complimentary valet parking is provided. The Blackwell Inn is located on OSU’s Fisher College of Business campus.
