The City of Columbus is looking for new candidates to serve on the Civilian Police Review Board and provide oversight of the Columbus Division of Police. The board was implemented to review complaints of police misconduct, decide which cases should be independently reviewed, and make recommendations for discipline.
“The overarching goal of the Civilian Police Review Board is to restore trust in law enforcement by ensuring transparent investigations and holding officers who have done wrong accountable for their actions,” stated board chair Janet Jackson — a former city attorney and Franklin County municipal judge. “It is our great honor to serve the public in this capacity, and we invite anyone who may be interested in joining the board to submit an application for consideration.”
The board is comprised of nine members, originally appointed by Mayor Andrew Ginther. Anyone interested in applying can visit the Civilian Police Review Board to find the application (PDF). Board members serve three-year terms with a two term limit.
The civilian review board was established in 2021 following voter approval in November 2020.
